Tips for Improving your TEAS score

General advice for improving your TEAS score.

  • Take as many practice exams that mirror the duration and content of the TEAS as possible
  • By taking each section under the required time limits students get a much better feeling for the pacing of the test, and are much less likely to run out of time during the actual test.
  • After taking a practice exam make sure you look at the score/grade if available to determine what content areas need to be focused on.
    • If the practice exam is not automatically graded but has an answer key, it is a good use of time to go through and manually grade it to see were mistakes are being made.
  • Use all your resources such as course text book, workshops, and tutor center to help you identify weak points and maximize your score.
  • TEAS does not have penalty for guessing. When in doubt guess the answer, do not leave a section with unanswered questions.

Advice for multiple choice questions

  • For TEAS the multi choice always has 4 choices.
  • You will only be able to select one answer.
  • If uncertain of the answer, eliminate as many wrong choices as possible the make best guess.
  • Be careful of superlative terms such as "always" or "never".
    • If you can think of even one instance where the situation is not true then "always" cannot be used.
    • If you can think of even one instance where the situation is true then "never" cannot be used.

Advice for multi-select question

  • Multi-select questions are very similar to multiple choice except there is more than one correct answer to choose from, and for credit ALL correct choices must be selected,
  • When a question has multiple correct answers there is usually either the prompt "select all that apply" or the answer prompts will have empty squares [] instead of empty circles O.
  • TEAS questions are either full or no credit. So all correct choices must be selected to get awarded the point for the question.

Advice for fill in the blanks questions

  • For fill in the blanks you must enter a number, word, or phrase that completes the sentence into an empty text box.
  • Spelling matters
  • For numbers pay attention to any rules about rounding and if units need to be added
  • These questions do not award partial credit. Question must be fully correct for one point.

Advice for hot spot questions

  • In hot spot questions there will be a graphic with multiple clickable areas (around 4-6) and all areas that answer the question must be selected.
  • Very similar to multi-select questions except the answer choices are parts of an image

Advice for ordering the items questions

  • Ordering questions will ask the test taker to drag around items (around 4-6) and rank them based on a criteria. The criteria is usually "most to least" or "least to most".
  • Pay very close attention to how the spectrum is oriented. Do not organize from most to least when the question ask from least to most.
  • These questions do not award partial credit. Question must be fully correct for one point.
