Post handouts, readings, and other documents
There are multiple ways to share content with students in Canvas. Below are a few ideas for how you can use these tools. Remember to Publish the content!
Create a module for each week: This helps students keep track of the content and when it's due.
- Label that module with the dates that the content is being used, e.g. Week 9, March 2-6.
- Link to files, pages, activities, Zoom sessions, etc. from that module.
- Add a page to each module to provide context to students about how the readings connect to the course materials for the day(s).
Post content you’ve created via Canvas Pages. Those are the best for viewing on different devices, like small screen phones.
Use videos: The Highline College library has streaming video databases that have fully captioned academic content. Add the videos right to Canvas with the instructions for how to embed/link to library databases. Help from the library is also available 24x7 online. Email refhelp@highline.edu or chat live Links to an external site..
- YouTube also supports searching only for captioned videos. Links to an external site.
- If you find a video that doesn't have captions (or has the auto-captions), you can get them captioned.
Notify students via Canvas that you’ve added content. Use the method you’ve already introduced to students. For example, if you told students you’ll update them with class changes via announcements, use that to notify them of newly added content.
