Remember the Four Connections
Building connections with your students matters or, as Dr. Darryl Brice likes to say, relationship precedes learning.
This is a good time to think about the Four Connections. They are:
- Interact with students by name
- Check in regularly
- Schedule one-on-one meetings
- Practice paradox (set clear expectations, but be flexible).
We know from research that interaction is particularly critical in an online course or the similar remote teaching environment in which we find ourselves. Practicing these four connections creates that interaction.
Whether it's keeping an eye on the participants list in Zoom, using Bookings for one-on-one check-ins with students, or creating clear and regular deadlines for course work in Canvas, they can all be accomplished online; keep that in mind as you attend the workshops.
