This class requires regular and sustained access to an internet-connected computer. You are required to have a Highline Community College email account, and to have access to a web browser. I expect interaction and collaboration among all students, and have made participation a substantial factor in your grade. This format operates through the Canvas course management system, which is accessible at http://Canvas.highline.edu . If you need assistance with Canvas, please contact your instructor or the Instructional Computing Department, which has a web page at http://helpdesk.highline.edu/

How to participate:

The class will “meet” on Canvas daily; participation in the online discussions is required.  I expect everyone to sign on to Canvas each day of the work week, Monday-Friday, to check the announcements and discussion board for important information.

Discussion Forums

Our class discussion forums are set up for you to ask questions, help answer questions, and work together to solve problems.

Appropriate content includes:

• Requests for assistance with class content or projects

• Responses to discussion board prompts or other class members’ postings

• Relevant announcements

• "Hey check this out" messages, as long as they are relevant to class content and tell us what's innovative or interesting about the material you’re forwarding

Basic rules:

• Ask questions, help us answer questions, and work together to solve problems

• Keep the discussion on-track

• Keep the discussion on the discussion board, rather than communicating individually (others may benefit from the discussion)

• Be kind!

If you have questions or concerns about the discussion board itself, please email them to me through Canvas.

Response Time

• I will respond to emails and phone messages within one business day.

ASSIGNMENTS:

• Turn in your assignments using the appropriate resource (drop box, test and survey response, or discussion forum) within Canvas.  Assignments will not normally be accepted via email. Please keep a copy of your response to each assignment in case of technical problems.

GRADING:

I will grade each assignment using a rubric, a chart that indicates standards for each level of performance: excellent, acceptable, and needs improvement. In turn, your level of performance will dictate the number of points awarded for that assignment. I will post these rubrics on Canvas so that you will know exactly what level of performance will be needed to attain a certain grade.

All assignments must be completed and turned in no later than the last day of the quarter (August 18, 2016) to receive credit.

The grading scale for the course, based on 100 points, is:
