Course Overview and Outcomes

This course is a self-paced, optional orientation to Highline's Panopto instance. It includes information on installing, recording, editing, and getting help with the system. You do not have to complete the orientation to use Panopto, however you will likely find the information helpful. 

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the basic modules of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Find appropriate support resources for using Panopto
  • Set up Panopto to record on their own device
  • Login and start using Panopto on an office, lab or classroom computer on campus
  • Create a basic recording in Panopto
  • Post a recording to Canvas or a web page

Upon completion of the advanced modules of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Use Panopto to live webcast
  • Edit Panopto recordings
  • Re-record a section of a recording
  • Create drop boxes for student recordings and exam proctoring
  • Use advanced recording features such as screen switching

Technical Requirements

Participants must be able to navigate web-based applications and have sufficiently modern equipment and Internet service in order to access the course. 

Using Panopto requires a microphone and a computer with sufficient power and storage to record video. A camera is an optional tool as well. See the Panopto system requirements Links to an external site. for details. 

In most instances, you will need to access Panopto via Canvas. Please note that IE is not a recommended browser for Canvas. The browser Canvas developers recommend is Chrome, but the system works well with Firefox and Safari as well. Canvas has iPhone and Android Phone apps, and for tablets, works well on mobile browsers.

Communication

There are no discussion forums in this course. However, the course is monitored by the Instructional Design department, and questions sent to the instructors will be seen by our Faculty in Residence team.
