What to do if you have a problem? (Help Information)

Canvas can take some time to learn and can have some tricky parts to navigate. If you get stuck, no worries. There are so many people who want to help you. 

First, go back to this orientation and see if there is information or a video about the topic in this orientation. 

If not, check out these other resources that might be helpful. 

  • The Library has support to get more personal and hands-on support working with Canvas and other technology needed for class. Contact Kelly Aiken to set up a time to meet.
  • You can email techtutor@highline.edu and explain the issue. Someone will respond and help you through the issue or set up a time to meet and work with you.
  • These Canvas made guides can walk you through many of the common issues students have. Links to an external site. They often have step-by-step instructions and also videos. Each page has a title that tells you what the page will be about. And you can also search for a question or topic at the top.
  • Your instructor is also a good place to ask for help. Let them know what the issue is, and often they can help you work through it. This is one reason why doing your assignments early is important. This gives you time to get help if you need help with the Canvas technical side of being a college student. 
  • If there is a technical issue with Canvas, you can contact the Highline College IT Help Desk.

If you need help learning how to use a specific website or application for class, you can contact Highline's Tech Tutor. Help is available for commonly required sites like Canvas, ctcLink, and Watermark, but also apps like Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Zoom. Another Troubleshooting Tip

Your web browser stores copies of web pages you have visited to help load those pages faster the next time you visit. This information is stored in the "cache". Sometimes, your computer has retained a small bit of information that is getting in the way of your pages loading correctly. By clearing the data from your computer, you can help clear that block. This is called "clearing your cache." This is a recommended step to try to troubleshoot why something is not working.
