Creating APA Bibliographic Citations for the References Page: Test Yourself-3

Bibliographic citations for the Reference page include all the information someone would need to find the source we're citing, such as author(s), article title, journal name, date, etc. But we can't just put the information in whatever order we want. For APA citations, we must use the APA format so that there is consistency, making it easy for anyone to understand the citation (it's kind of like a language that you have to learn to speak with other researchers.)

To practice putting bibliographic citations in the right order for the Reference page try this interactive tool Links to an external site. from a the Twist Library in New Zealand. (See, people all over the world are learning how to cite in APA style.)

When we click on the link above, we'll see different parts of a citation in random order. (This will open in a separate browser window, so we can easily return to this page when we're done.)

  1. Decide which part should go first, and then click on it. That will make the part move into the first position.
  2. Then click on the part that you think should come next, and it will also move into position.
  3. Do this until you have all the parts in the order you think it correct.
  4. Click the "Check" button to see if it's correct. If it's not correct, try again.

Give it a try; it's actually kind of fun.
