Plagiarism Detection with Google Assignments
Highline is piloting the use of Google Assignments' built-in plagiarism detection tool. The tool is integrated into Canvas, and students can conduct self-checks of their work. With Google Assignments, you can also provide a template for students to use in their responses to the assignment.
There are a few caveats:
- You're limited to assessing plagiarism on five assignments per class, per quarter. That means every student submission for each of the five assignments, not five total submissions.
- Students must submit their papers using Google Docs. If they've written their document in Microsoft Word, they can either copy-and-paste the content, or convert the document format.
- It does not check against other work from your class. In other words, if two students submit the same paper to your assignment, Google won't catch it.
