Tech skills and access resources
There are several resources for students to help them learn technology skills. Keep in mind, some of the concerns will be the basics of using computers, like how to open and save a Word document.
Getting students connected to the internet
- Comcast has free internet access for new customers for 60 days Links to an external site.. After that, their Internet Essentials package is $9.95 per month. They can also get a computer from Comcast for $150.
- Centurylink has a similar program called Lifeline Links to an external site..
Resources at Highline
The college is offering a no-cost, one-credit online Introduction to Canvas course during the week of March 30-April 3. The course will be taught in English, Arabic, and Spanish. Details should be available soon, along with an announcement to students.
The college will also be launching a virtual support center. Again, stay tuned in email for details.
Online Tutorials
- Goodwill Industries has a big set of tutorials Links to an external site.. They cover a lot of different topics, but most relevant to your students are basic computer skills, email, the internet, smartphones and tablets, and various Windows, Mac OS, and Microsoft products. The tutorials are mobile friendly, and for students who know YouTube, most tutorials also have YouTube playlists linked from the tutorial page.
