Using a document camera/doc cam substitute with Panopto and Zoom
Document camera
You can use Panopto and Zoom in partnership with the document camera in your classroom, and send the images to your students:
- Make sure the document camera is on before you do anything.
- Launch the application called Sphere 2 on the classroom computer. That software will send the doc camera through the computer so that Panopto can record it.
- Start your Panopto recording or share the Sphere 2 app in Zoom, and you should be good!
Other computer programs that can substitute for a classroom whiteboard
Use Word, OneNote, or any other program you can type or draw on. You can use Zoom or Panopto to record your screen.
Zoom's built-in whiteboard
Share the whiteboard tool Links to an external site. within Zoom. This works best if you have a touch screen.
Use a webcam pointed down at a piece of paper
If you have a webcam that plugs into a usb port, you can move that camera into any position you'd like. With a little MacGuyver engineering you can suspect this webcam above a piece of paper. You can treat this webcam just as you would treat your classroom document camera.
If you have more than one webcam,
- with Zoom, you can screen share this rigged doc camera as a second camera input Links to an external site..
- with Panopto, you can add a second webcam Links to an external site..
