Working from off-campus
There are a host of tools that can help you work on classes while at home or when the campus is closed. Many are accessible from any device that is connected to the internet. These include:
- Microsoft Office 365 - Office applications in the cloud - Sign up Links to an external site. / Sign In. Links to an external site.
- VPN Access Links to an external site. - Access your campus computer remotely.
- Make sure you have a webcam and speakers. (Note, many laptops already have cameras and microphones built in).
- Google Drive and Google Apps - Storage, documents, file sharing.
Mobile apps for phones and tablets
The mobile apps are pretty good in their own right (iPad and Speedgrader are a great combo!) and also a good backup to your home computer. Set them up and test them out.
Canvas Teacher: Canvas has a great app for instructors using Canvas, for both smartphones and tablets.

Accessing the Internet
Our ITS department is working to get faculty--both full-time and part-time--the tools they will need to work from home, including laptops, webcams, and Internet hotspots. If you expressed your needs in the technology survey Links to an external site., great! If your needs have changed, revisit the survey and edit your responses. You may also want to email helpdesk@highline.edu and let them know you've updated your survey response.
If you do not have reliable Internet access at home, Comcast has made its Xfinity wifi hotspots available to everyone for free Links to an external site., as well as offering free home internet with unlimited data through the middle of May.
