Details!

Details - there are so many of them! It's easy to get stuck in this part of a course redesign. Figuring out all the little parts can take so much time that it's tempting to start with this - but a backwards design approach suggests tackling this part last. Hopefully if you've followed the process suggested by this training, you will be fairly efficient with these tasks.

Here are three essentials. I'm sure you will discover many more.

  • Review course documents: syllabus, assignments, rubrics, etc.
  • Decide how students will access your open content. Examples: embed in LMS, link out from syllabus/reading list, create a consistent experience using a platform of your choice, etc.
  • Talk to the bookstore. The bookstore manager needs to know that you won't be using your previous textbook. They can also help you figure out print options if you want to create a physical coursepack.
