Ocean Pollution

Pollution is a big problem in the world’s oceans.  Oceans are polluted in many ways.  One way is when people dump garbage and toxic chemicals into the water.  Another way is when big ships spill oil.  Ocean pollution kills fish and other ocean animals and plants.  It also makes the water unsafe for people.  You should never put trash in the ocean.

Natural Disasters

Natural disasters happen everywhere.  In Washington State, there are storms that cause floods.  Storms usually happen in the winter.  Wildfires happen during the summer.  Earthquakes are common in Washington, Oregon, and California.  In other parts of the United States, there are hurricanes, tornadoes, and snow storms.  It is important to be prepared for natural disasters.  Buy enough food and water for your family for three (3) days.

Climate Change

The weather around the earth is changing.  More extreme weather is happening where it did not happen before.  There are bigger rain and snow storms.  Hurricanes are hitting farther north in the United States.  Many areas are experiencing unusually high temperatures.  Wildfires are getting bigger and happening in new areas.  Some areas are suffering from drought, because there is not enough water.  Some people think the weather is changing because people are using more fuel, like coal and oil, than in the past.  Some people think the weather is changing because people cut down too many trees in the forest.  Many scientists and governments are worried.
