Mini 5: Piagetian Tasks

1. Identify a child between the ages of 4-12yrs old. 

2. Conduct two (or more) of the Piagetian Conservation Tasks on the child, following the four question steps identified in the handouts. 

1. Ask the child if the two amounts are the same. Establish equivalency.
2. Change one of the variables, in front of the child.
3. Ask if the two amounts are the same. Establish equivalency again. 
4. Ask the child to explain their answer. Ask why they think the amounts are the same or not.

3. In one-page summarize the experience.

• Identify the age/gender of the child, location of the observation, any environmental factors that might have impacted the activity, eg. lots of people around, child tired/hungry, etc.
• Identify which conservation tasks you chose to conduct and why you chose those tasks.
• Identify which Stage of Cognitive development you have found the child based on the tasks you conducted. 
• Identify two skills a child in the this stage of cognitive development will display. 
• Utilize key terms (bold them in the summary).
