Mini 5: Piagetian Tasks

1. Identify a child between the ages of 4-12yrs old.
2. Conduct two (or more) of the Piagetian Conservation Tasks on the child, following the four question steps identified in the handouts.
- Ask the child if the two amounts are the same. Establish equivalency.
- Change one of the variables, in front of the child.
- Ask if the two amounts are the same. Establish equivalency again.
- Ask the child to explain their answer. Ask why they think the amounts are the same or not.
3. In one-page summarize the experience.
- Identify the age/gender of the child, location of the observation, any environmental factors that might have impacted the activity, eg. lots of people around, child tired/hungry, etc.
- Identify which conservation tasks you chose to conduct and why you chose those tasks.
- Identify which Stage of Cognitive development you have found the child based on the tasks you conducted.
- Identify two skills a child in the this stage of cognitive development will display.
- Utilize key terms (bold them in the summary).
