What Happens Now?
When do my courses show up?
Your courses will appear one day after all your Highline Canvas User Guide (and Orientation) assignments have been graded. Please note that:
- Your assignments have to be graded, and you have to achieve a grade of 80%. It may take a day or two for grading to be completed, especially during academic breaks.
- The course must be officially assigned to you by the Scheduling Office. (An easy way to check is to find your class on the Quarterly Class Schedule).
What's with all the other modules in this course?
This Highline Canvas User Guide (and Orientation) was designed to provide a very basic overview of the tools in Canvas. It will stay in your list of courses on Canvas, so you can refer back to it in the future.
The modules below are what we call the "Advanced Canvas" course. They include more in-depth information about some of the tools covered in the Orientation, as well as training for the many additional tools Canvas provides. (And there are a lot).
In addition, the advanced course addresses effective pedagogy for online and hybrid courses, and ways to use Canvas to enable improved online success.
Where else can I learn about Canvas?
Well, the modules below are a great place to start! We've curated a collection of how-to guides, hard-won safety tips, and other tricks for using Canvas.
There are several venues you can use here at Highline:
- CanvAssistance: Each week, there are several "CanvAssistance" sessions held in the MIDS Lab (Building 9, Room 110). These are drop-in consulting sessions where you can get face-to-face help from one of your fellow faculty members on the instructional design team.
- Highline Canvas Users Group on Facebook: Yes, that's right, we have a Facebook page. This is another great place to ask questions. While your colleagues on the Educational Technology team have worked hard to learn the ins and outs of Canvas, there is only so much they know. When you ask a question through Facebook, that question goes out not only to everyone in instructional design but over 100 of your faculty peers.
- Emailing id@highline.edu - Our Educational Technology Faculty in Residence all answer email messages sent to this address. If you can't make CanvAssistance, send an email to the group and we can set up a time to talk one-on-one, either face-to-face or online.
