Accessible, mobile ready content - The PLAID Criteria

PLAID (Peer-Led Analysis of Instructional Design) provides guidelines for strong Canvas courses. This module will address the following PLAID criteria:

Course Design

  • Left navigation bar shows only the most essential information. All navigation links are essential to the course.
  • Course materials and activities are readable and usable on mobile phones and tablets.

Content and Outcomes

  • Course content is presented using a variety of media resources such as video and audio.
  • Course materials are provided in formats accessible via alternate means: e.g. videos are captioned, transcripts for audio, PDFs can be read by screen-readers, Alternative text for images, etc.

Communication and Interaction

  • Instructor uses multiple methods to communicate with students, for example video, audio, other communication tools.
