Goals - Finding Your Course Outcomes
Course outcomes are statements that specify what students will know, be able to do, or demonstrate when they have completed a specific course.
At Highline, the course outcomes are specified when the course is created, and are the same for each section. The course outcomes can then be used as a structure to guide the creation of the rest of the course from assessments to activities to content.
Course outcomes can be found in the course descriptions section of the catalog; you can also get there by clicking on course names in the class schedule. If you’ve received a syllabus template for the course, the course-level outcomes should be listed there as well. We recommend double-checking the course description to ensure you are working with the most up-to-date outcomes.
Course outcomes remain the same regardless of delivery mode. The activities, assessment, and content may change, but the students should end in the same place regardless of whether the course was taught online, hybrid, or face-to-face.
In some courses, more detailed module/chapter level outcomes may be specified, but often the instructor for each section will determine them based on the structure of the course. These module outcomes will align with/to the course outcomes.
