Linking Content in Canvas

Content that is linked to your course will appear either in the content pane of Canvas, or in a new tab or window of the browser. You can create links in the RCE to any file on the Internet and to any other materials in your course. This is a handy way to present collections of materials (e.g. the week's readings), an assignment (with links to supporting files), and more.

You can link to many different resources:

  • Library materials
  • Other Pages, Files, Discussions, and even Quizzes and Assignments in your course
  • Entire modules in Canvas
  • Other web sites

Linking works better for presenting lists of materials and links. It is also a good way to avoid copyright concerns, since the original material isn't copied into your course.

Pro tip

Link to words that describe the link destination Links to an external site. instead of pasting in raw URLs. This will help people using a screen reader understand where the link will take them.
