Organizing Course Content
Canvas's main organization method is the Modules. Modules allow you to build your course in a logical manner and control the flow. For example, you can have modules titled Week 1, Week 2, etc. Alternatively, you can organize Modules around course themes or topics. However, there are other options for organizing course content, such as building your course using Pages. The following links explain modules and pages in more detail.
Pros of Module Organization:
- It's the most-commonly used organization method in Canvas so students are likely to be familiar with it.
- You can easily add content to modules, reorganize by dragging and dropping, set modules to open at specific times or when other requirements are met, etc.
- Modules present a linear progression through course materials.
Pros of Page Organization:
- You can create nicely formatted pages with images, text, videos, etc. that might be more user-friendly than modules for some students. However, it's important to make sure that pages are accessible.
- Sometimes you don't want students to move in a linear progression through materials.
