Adding Your Syllabus
Your syllabus is probably one of the first pieces of content you'll be adding to your Canvas course. There are a few different ways that you can do that in Canvas. There's a much more involved discussion around this in the Advanced Canvas modules later in this course, but for now, here are a few ideas:
- Upload your syllabus to Canvas Files Links to an external site., and link it in the course Modules Links to an external site.. Students will have a printable, downloadable file of the syllabus. Updates can be cumbersome, though.
- Put the content of your syllabus into a Canvas Page Links to an external site.. Link that page from Modules, or make it the Front Page Links to an external site. (home page) of your course.
We generally don't recommend the Canvas Syllabus tool. That page includes a link to all the assignments in the course, but doesn't show anything that doesn't have a due date (like a reading assignment).
When your courses are added to Canvas, several pages will be included: a Policies and Procedures link, and a page called Resources for Students. These are common syllabus content for which the college provides standard content. There are both PDF versions for printed handouts, and Canvas Pages with content that students can review online. You can add these to your syllabus or, better yet, keep them as separate resources so your students can focus on each individually.
