Your Personal Settings

Everyone with a Canvas account can customize their personal Canvas settings, including time zone, and how your name is displayed. You can also create a personal profile to help students get to know you better. These settings are not course-specific -- they are applied to across all of your Canvas courses.

Some settings we recommend:

1. If this is your first time in the settings page, you will see a gray circle where the smiley face is. Click on that gray circle to upload a profile picture. Links to an external site. It is generally recommended that instructors upload a picture as it helps the student connect to the instructor. This is especially important if you are teaching an online course.
2. To help your students connect to you better (especially if you're teaching online) you may want to click the Profile link so you can add a personal bio and links to web pages Links to an external site.. This is a great way to help your students get to know you.
3. On the far-right side of the personal settings page you can create/modify your communication channels. We'll take a look at that on the next page.
